Building a brighter future for children in need through care, education, and hope.
The orphan care ministry emerged as a natural extension of our mission shortly after the founding of Fountain of Life Deliverance Ministries in the Pumwani area of Nairobi. Driven by a deep compassion for the vulnerable, we expanded our outreach in 2000 by launching a dedicated feeding programme. This initiative specifically targeted street boys from Eastleigh’s Jam Street, offering them a consistent source of nutrition and hope. At that time, we provided them with one meal per day, serving as a vital lifeline before they returned to the streets, and laying the groundwork for the comprehensive care ministry we lead today.
One evening, a shop located near where the boys usually slept was broken into. By the time security officials arrived, the thieves were long gone; however, out of misplaced suspicion, the officials began to beat the innocent children who were sleeping on the nearby pavements. Desperate for protection and seeking refuge from the violence, the children thought of a safe place they could run to and came to the church for sanctuary. That pivotal moment of seeking help transformed our mission, and many years down the line, we have been blessed to grow into a large, loving family of children.
In 2005, as part of our ongoing efforts to support the reintegration and rehabilitation of former street children with their families, the church entered the Dandora slums in a dedicated bid to trace their relatives. The harsh realities that confronted our ministry during this journey were incredibly telling and deeply moving. We traced several terminally ill parents who were in the final stages of HIV/AIDS, struggling in dire conditions. It was through these encounters that we realized there were many more children who would soon find themselves abandoned on the streets if we did not extend our ministry to support these vulnerable families directly.
This discovery shifted our focus toward a more holistic approach to family preservation and community care as the church began a Community-Based Care (CBC) outreach. This initiative was designed to minister to the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs of these families, ensuring they felt supported in every aspect of their lives. Through this dedicated mission between 2005 and 2013, we were honored to come alongside 60 HIV/AIDS clients, providing them with essential care and dignity. As a result of these efforts, we have successfully impacted the lives of over 200 children, creating a ripple effect of hope and stability that continues to strengthen our community today.
Today, Fountain of Life is a charitable children's home currently situated at Komarock Road, off Kangundo Road, along Mysa Green Road. This location serves as the heart of our operations and a permanent sanctuary for those we serve. Having grown from our humble beginnings in Pumwani and the streets of Eastleigh, this home represents our long-term commitment to providing a stable, loving environment.
At the heart of Nairobi, nestled within the echoes of struggle and hope, stands Fountain of Life Children’s Home—a sanctuary for the forgotten boy child. For more than two decades, we have worked to be a home for boys who need safety, support and a chance to build their future.
Our journey began in 2000 as a simple feeding programme in Pumwani, Nairobi, offering food and hope to children in need. Every day, we served warm meals to hungry children—most of them orphaned or abandoned. What started as a gesture of compassion soon became a calling. We witnessed boys as young as eight living on the streets, surviving abuse, neglect, and hunger. They had no safe place to sleep, no school to attend, and no one to call family.
Today, Fountain of Life cares for 40 boys. We are more than just a shelter—we are a family. We provide food, clothing, healthcare, education, mentorship, and most importantly, love. Our boys are currently enrolled in various schools across the country, determined to reclaim the future they almost lost.
Nevertheless, the landscape is changing. In line with Kenya’s evolving child protection policies—Changing the Way We Care—children's homes like ours are being phased out in favor of reintegration into biological or extended families. While we support this model in principle, the reality on the ground is far more complex. Many of our boys have been sent back to relatives who either cannot or will not care for them. We’ve seen them return malnourished, abused, and emotionally shattered.
The boy child is too often the invisible child. Society turns its eyes away, assuming that boys are resilient enough to survive anything. But we know better. We see the pain behind their smiles. We hear their silent prayers at night. And we know—without a doubt—that they need us now more than ever.
As a child-centered organization, we are committed to continuing our work, especially in ensuring that these boys have access to quality education. We believe that education is the most powerful weapon we can give them to break the cycle of poverty, neglect, and hopelessness.
But we cannot do this alone. We rely entirely on well-wishers, donors, and partners who believe, as we do, that every child deserves a chance. Today, we are calling on your compassion, your empathy, and your generosity. Help us keep these boys in school. Help us fight for their right to be seen, heard, and loved. Help us be their fountain of life.
Because every boy deserves a future. And every future begins with someone who cares. To empower the community living in the slums of Nairobi Eastland on social-economic development in order to reduce effects of HIV/AIDS, poverty and illiteracy in the community.
